In Texas, the small unincorporated community of Boca Chica Village looks to incorporate as "Starbase, Texas" - a town that be focused around the needs of one company and the main employer - SpaceX. (SLPolitico)

This old libertarian fantasy is unmaintainable legacy civilization, we'll just rewrite it.

As cool as I think OG EPCOT is (the original planned community), I can’t imagine Walt Disney would have a been a good or fair landlord.

Elon musk is no Walt Disney. I have to think he’d be even worse.

Whether Walt Disney would have been a decent landlord is a valid debate. But I at least have to applaud his goal. From the beginning, EPCOT was envisioned as an honest to goodness community.

In contrast, Starbase is envisioned as a power grab and a tax break.

Isn't Celebration, Florida the effective Disney company town (in that it is still the largest landowner), with problems of its own?

They keep saying Gulf of Mexico when surely they mean Gulf of America. If they’re not careful, then glorious leader will try to have them deported to their native country. Wait, that’s probably the US. Well, isn’t that a conundrum?.

They keep saying Gulf of Mexico
Oh god, now my blood is boiling again. I had forgotten that under the deluge of horrible inflicted by Elon and his White House lackey.

My first hints of the evils of SpaceX was that their propulsion test stand was in Waco. I should have realized how bad it could become. That and my brief tour of their main facility back then - it was clear to me they didn’t want their workers to leave there, either.

So, I saw this just over a month ago about 1/4 mile from the Gulf Mexico.

I was, admittedly, heated when I saw it. Then I saw who it was "sponsored" by.

Someone is a better troll than I am. (Billboard is already down and it was in a direction most tourists would not have seen it, FWIW.)

I am sure that I will fall into the general Metafilter zeitgeist on this idea, so I don't have much to add, other than my org had spent 1000s of man hours at a nearby SpaceX facility and were never allowed to eat at the cafeteria, as the cafeteria was completely subsidized (by US Gov, I think?). Closest place for our team was a 20 minute drive.

Why, yes. I am spitting nails.
