Every day, somebody says or does something that earns them the scorn of the internet. Here at Digg, as part of our mission to curate what the internet is talking about right now, we rounded up the main characters on X from this past week and held them accountable for their actions.

This week, we've got a bad take about reading, an out-of-touch tech guy, more Marques Brownlee controversy, another weird post from Bill Ackman and someone who really enjoys wearing dresses to "own the libs."

Tuesday

Stacked Librarian

The character: Stacked Librarian, X user, poster of questionable takes

The plot: People on the internet pathologizing normal behaviors is nothing new, but, this time, someone's claiming that kids who loved reading books were actually "disassociating."

The repercussion: Former child bookworms from across the app pushed back against Stacked Librarian's take.

Saturday

Daksh Gupta

The character: Daksh Gupta, entrepreneur, greptile, pitfalls forecaster

The plot: To kick Q4 off, Gupta, a tech entrepreneur who runs an AI company, asked his X followers if his honest approach to being a boss — "no work-life-balance, typical workdays start at 9am and end at 11pm, often later, and we work Saturdays, sometimes also Sundays. I emphasize the environment is high stress, and there is no tolerance for poor work" — was good.

With America going into founder mode, you can imagine Y Combinator will be producing a handful of Guptas every quarter for the next four years.

The repercussion: You know things on X are slow when a post like this got less than a 1,000 reposts. However, it was still plastered across timelines, and those who couldn't resist reacting to it couldn't even get past the fact that this guy named his company "greptile."

Monday

Marie Gluesenkamp Perez

The character: Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, politician, businesswoman, fresh food advocate

The plot: A lot of folks were introduced to Gluesenkamp Perez, the representative of Washington's 3rd congressional district, for the first time recently after she shared a clip about a bill she's proposing to help provide fresh fruit in daycares.

The repercussion: Some folks focused on the fact that a politician was adding more red tape to an issue that needed less of it, while others couldn't stop thinking about the animal (bear? Dog?) that wandered into the frame and disappeared behind her.

Tuesday

Marques Brownlee

The character: Marques Brownlee, YouTube tech reviewer, alleged speed demon

The plot: Eagle-eyed readers might remember seeing Brownlee make this list a few weeks ago over his overpriced wallpaper app, but the behavior this time is more serious. Apparently, some folks noticed that a driving segment in one of his recent sponsored videos shows the vehicle driving over 90 miles per hour in an area with speed limits signs that warns drivers to slow down for children. There was an attempt to hide the true speed with a blur, but people figured it out anyway.

In a pinned comment under the video, Brownlee admits to having edited out the offending clip from the video, but doesn't address the controversy or even apologize. He did eventually talk about it on X, but some folks still don't think it's enough.

The repercussion: Brownlee is exceedingly well-known these days, so his public actions are always under scrutiny. Hopefully, he not only has learned his lesson about being more selective about what ends up in his videos, but starts taking road safety seriously too.

Tuesday

Bill Ackman

The character: Bill Ackman, investor, anti-Ivy Leaguer, prolific poster

The plot: Ackman, another billionaire who posts like an unemployed college graduate, recently put out another lengthy post on X — this time about his friend who was asked to write a recommendation letter for his daughter's Yale admission (weird). The letter refers to "your daughter's application," which makes it weirder, unless Ackman's premise is poorly worded.

While Ackman keeps raising the bait bar higher, people couldn't help but react to this one with finger-pointing and ridicule.

The repercussion: Because Ackman's outrageous opinions are so absurd in their original form, his haters don't need to make a nuanced point, or really any point at all, to make fun of him.

Sunday

Josh Seiter

The character: Josh Seiter, ex-Bachelor, fan of dress-up

The plot: You may recognize Josh Seiter from season 11 of "The Bachelorette" (although maybe not, because he was eliminated in week one), but more recently he's become known as the guy who pretended to be transgender to "expose woke culture." While the hoax is over, Seiter doesn't appear to be totally done dressing up, because he's been sharing countless photos of himself dressed in women's clothing to X, along with captions aimed at taunting trans people.

The repercussion: Though Seiter claims the stunt is all part of "owning the libs," people couldn't help but notice how many items of women's clothing he appears to own — and how much fun he seems to be having wearing them.
