In the 2022 tax year, Florida welcomed more than 125,300 households from other states around the US. Using the latest available IRS data, SmartAsset found out which states are losing the most people to Florida.

New Yorkers relocated to Florida at more than double the rate of any other state's residents, with 51,967 households leaving their homes behind for the Sunshine State in 2022.

Florida also gained high numbers of households from Georgia (24,383), California (24,011) and New Jersey (23,128).

Households from Illinois were the wealthiest to move to Florida, bringing an average adjusted gross income of $231,364 with them. The second-richest transplants came from New Jersey ($228,205).

Residents of Wyoming and North Dakota were least keen to become Floridians, with just 520 and 660 of their households moving into the state, respectively.
