With America's 2024 presidential election nearing, a key issue among voters is the age of the Republican and Democratic parties' presumptive nominees. President Joe Biden, who is 81, drew headlines last week after seemingly reading a teleprompter direction out loud, while 77-year-old Donald Trump's cognitive state is a regular subject of speculation in the press.
As the below chart by Joseph shaw shows, Biden and Trump are the oldest presidents to ever sit in the White House, starting their terms at the age of 78 and 70, respectively.
It's not just the country's presidents that are long in the tooth, though. Nearly 70 percent of all sitting Us senators are over the age of 60 โ and in many Us states, the average elected official is decades older than the median resident.
