The things people hope to do or achieve in their lifetime are, obviously, subjective โ€” but if Google search data is anything to go by, many of us probably have at least a few bucket list items in common.

Go2Africa wanted to know what people's bucket lists look like across the globe, so they used Google search data from the past year to determine the top desired destination in each country. Figures are accurate as of October 2024.

Visiting New York City is the most wished-for experience in the highest number of countries, with 27 putting the Big Apple at the top of their bucket list.

Machu Picchu is the second-most common bucket list destination, followed by the Grand Canyon and the Eiffel Tower.

When it comes to Americans' bucket lists, the most popular experiences are seeing the Northern Lights, visiting the Grand Canyon and holidaying in Bora Bora.

Calling BS on this one. Basically this is looking at a few search terms in Google trends which the authors have decided are "bucket list" searches, but they could be for something else. Everyone in Canada searching for "Northern lights" are searching that because there were some northern lights to see, not because it is their bucket list. A search for "New York" doesn't mean that visiting New York is someone's bucket list, just could mean that you're booking travel there.

Yes especially since ny is a major international travel hub. Anybody coming from Europe or Africa has a very high chance of a layover there
