According to the FBI, Memphis, Tennessee, leads the largest US cities when it comes to high property crime rates โ but what about the smaller places Americans call home?
To uncover the safest small towns in the country, Vivint analyzed FBI data from 2023 and ranked locations with populations of 50,000 to 100,000 based on their rates of property crime, larceny, motor vehicle theft and robbery.
Columbus, Indiana, was the safest small town overall, with just 12 property crimes per 10,000 residents, and recorded no larceny or car theft. Wheaton, Illinois, and Saratoga Springs, Utah, followed behind.
The locations with the highest property crime rates, on the other hand, were San Leandro, California, and Federal Way, Washington, which recorded 593.6 and 567.3 property crimes for every 10,000 people, respectively.
Residents of Pensacola, Florida, and Sammamish, Washington, reported zero robberies in 2023. St. Cloud, Florida, joined Columbus, Indiana, in seeing no vehicle thefts over the same period.
