
WordTips wanted to find out the most-searched-for word definitions in each country, so they analyzed Google search data and ranked words by the volume of searches for them in conjunction with "definition."
Worldwide, the most-searched-for definitions are for demure, fascism and resilience, which top the list in six countries each.
Americans have looked up the definition for gaslighting more than any other word, with 110,000 monthly searches overall. Chosen as Merriam-Webster's Word of the Year in 2022, gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation that causes someone to question their own sanity or powers of reasoning.
In the United Kingdom, the most-searched-for definition is diversity (9,900 monthly searches), while Canada's is integrity (8,100).
