Not going to lie, I've had a long-time dream of just being on a beach to watch baby sea turtles hatching, and making sure they are unmolested as they wander to the water. And it doesn't surprise me for even a second that there's a 16-month waiting list for this volunteer work.

Lovely, glad these little creatures are getting the help they need A few years ago, I went to Oman to see turtles lay their eggs, and it was incredible. Hope to return someday to see hatching, too.

I have been to Cape Verde a couple of times and there is a very robust sea turtle rescue, protection and research program there. Tourists are integrated into the process and I can tell you watching a mother turtle laying and then hiding her eggs under the light of a bazillion stars is one of those life moments.

If we don't save the wee turtles, who will?
