Delightful intermingling of the meanings. And though there is only one of me, I would like to add that it always annoyed me, as a teacher, that students of many ages actually paid closer attention to (and learned more from) puppet teachers than to real ones. Annoyed me because I find puppets annoying and inauthentic.

One of the reasons my wife says she fell in love with me was that I had made a sock puppet to play with my young daughter; not only do I do puppets but I also make puppets?!?!???

I was utterly irresistible.

Steps to make a sock puppet:

1. Pull long sport tube sock (preferably with dramatic stripes at the shins) over hand
2. Tuck the toe in between your fingers to make a mouth; it should be about as deep as your entire hand
3. Use needle and thread to sew the inner mouth to the outside cheek at the deepest part on both sides (like cheek dimples)
4. Sew button eyes wherever button eyes belong
5. Ta da, you have a sock puppet

Egad, I wake up to find an annoying Clippy surrogate floating in the lower corner of my phone’s screen when I open up MetaFilter. Who the fuck has hacked MetaFilter??? I avoid touching that irritating image, not knowing what sort of digital disease could be lurking there. A bit more reading reveals, I assume, it’s an inside job. But, no, not appreciated this early in the morning.

The fit on the thumb for Socky's lower "jaw" seems weirdly form-fitted. It's kind of giving me uncanny valley sock puppet vibes. Like, how fucked up was that sock before the blue fairy made him into, uh... a real, live boy?
