The greatest drummer I've ever seen live. R.I.P.

There are many musicians whose advancing age is always a shock to me, but somehow the ages of the members of Blondie always shock me the most. Debbie Harry turns 80 years old this summer? Get the fuck out of here.
RIP Clem Burke.

Given the lifestyle I’m always surprised when musicians make it to 70 but it always hurts a little bit to hear of them passing because they are so much a part of our lives.

I’ve known for years that she achieved her fame and fortune later than what’s usual for the business but her age still surprises me.

a college friend of mine was a drummer for a few punk bands in the Twin Cities. I asked him one time about his favorite drummers, and he mentioned Clem Burke. I said, incredulously, "The guy from Blondie?!?"
he played "Dreaming" for me.

Deborah Harry's career started in the late 1960s, she sang with the folk-rock group The Wind In The Willows, who released an album in 1968. It includes the song "Uptown Girl" (which is, uh, not THAT "Uptown Girl").

Back in 2018 I saw Clem Burke as part of Split Squad, a new wave supergroup opening for The Vapors on their first US shows since 1981, and was blown away by how good of a drummer he was. What a shame to lose him, and doubly so along side Dave Allen, former bassist for Gang of Four passed away. Would post-punk/new wave iconic musicians please stop dying for a bit. The world sucks enough.

I'm 60 so I was a young teen when Blondie first made it big. I was aware of them but really wasn't a fan.
But, in the age of the internet one of the things I do is watch old music clips on YouTube and watching Blondie back then perform live was really an unexpected delight. Holy shit they were good and what, for me, was the best thing about their live performances was Clem Burke's drumming; I found it quite amazing.
So, thank you for that.

When I was 10, I saved my allowance and acquired Parallel Lines, the very beginning of my record collection. I added their earlier albums, and then all of their other albums as they were released. Clem Burke was the drummer on all of them. I was of course Debbie's devoted fan, but I loved how I could sing the songs in my room and the drums made me feel like such a badass. Thanks, Clem.

Was always more of a Union City Blues guy myself, because I guess the lyrics, but Clem's pretty much going off at the Apollo there in '79.

To make it all the more remarkable, Clem Burke has since said that his incredible fills and improvisation on Dreaming was because he thought it was a warmup take, and was just goofing around. What a loss.
