Welcome to the LGBTQIA+ News Post. I've been running behind for my own mental health, but here you go, so if some of these seems old or outdated, that's why. But we are all Immaterial girls, immaterial boys.
The month so far almost broke me, but fuck you, reality, I'm still here.
The Bad News
The Supreme Court today https://www.advocate.com/news/supreme-court-ames-ohio-reverse-discrimination
The Regime has declared June as Title IX Month while refusing to acknowledge the LGBTQ+ community — but Pride Month is happening whether That Orange Bastard likes it or not. Ted Cruz has been trying to rebrand June as "Pro Life Month", too, and it's going as badly as expected.
Secretary of Defense Pete"Hello Cirrosis My Old Friend Hegseth has ordered the Navy to rename the USNS Harvey Milk, specifically doing it during Pride Month, to for “alignment with president and SECDEF objectives and SECNAV priorities of reestablishing the warrior culture.”. Milk, an openly gay man and activist murdered in 1978, was a naval officer during the Korean Conflict, but was forced to resign with an other-than-honorable discharge due to his sexuality. A list of other ships being considered for renaming included USNS Thurgood Marshall (black Supreme Court Justice), USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg (woman Supreme Court Justice), USNS Harriet Tubman (famous anti-slavery activist), USNS Dolores Huerta (hispanic, co-founder of the United Farm Workers), USNS Lucy Stone (abolitionist and suffragist, USNS Cesar Chavez (hispanic, co-founder of the United Farm Workers) and USNS Medgar Evers (civil rights activist). Renaming a ship is traditionally a bad idea.
On June 2, The FBI, under director Kash Patel, has issued a call for tip-off for medical personnel providing gender-affirming care to trans youth, effectively equating things like hormone blockers and hormone replacement to surgery. Do we have to go over this again? There are no gender reassignment surgeries going on for people who haven't reached full physical growth (except at birth to intersex infants byquacks assholes some doctors). A small number are getting chest masculinization ("top") surgery, but that's it.
During World Pride in Washington DC,the heart of the beast,, the National Park Service had declared Dupont Circle Park closed for the celebration from June 5 to June 9, citing "significant” damage to the park’s fountain during a previous pride event . They continued:
The United States Air Force Academy held its graduation this past weekend. Three transgender cadets, who passed all the tests and were to be the first to graduate, were denied their commissions in the Air Force, and warned that if they did not leave voluntarily, they might need to pay back their education costs. The cadets are suing.
Chuck Schumer rose from his sarcophagus to call for HHS to restore federal HIV funding. He demanded a written reply from the Secretary of Illness about what they're going to do to fix it.
The Texas legislature has passed a bill which includes LGBTQ+ student club bans, forced outing policies, a DEI ban, and is expected to be signed by the Governor so fast his pen will catch fire.
Multiple universities in Ohio have announced that they will be closing their LGBTQ+ student centers to comply with a state ban on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives under Ohio bill SB1, which goes into effect on June 27. Those include Ohio State University, Kent State University, and the University of Toledo.I am sorry for Ohioans, but what the fuck, dayo?
Plump The Orange Dragon has threatened to send large-scale fines against California because AB Hernandez did well in the track meet this previous weekend, and that hurt his little fee-fees.
His administration is also targeting a school in Cromwell, CT for allowing a trans woman athlete to compete on the girl's varsity team.
A trans woman was arrested by ICE during an asylum hearing in Portland, OR, and moved to the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma, WA. The judge ordered she not be deported. Her lawyers have not been able to contact her.
In Utah, a group of white supremacists left anti-gay and white supremacist messages near houses with LGBTQIA+ affirming displays. Some were stapled to poles and some were put in ziplocs and thrown into yards. How do we know it was from theNew Neo-Nazi Numbskulls the Krew Kut Klux Klan white supremacists? In addition to notes like "It's okay to be white", "white power", and "Man Plus Woman", They put their organization's URL on the propaganda.
Jesus Christ, You Fucking Idiots In Sports: Imane Khelif must undergo 'mandatory sex testing' to compete in Olympics. Yup. The release about the new testing that World Boxing put out, stating that all women (but not men!) who wish to compete in the Olympics must undergo a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test, which produces copies of DNA in order to study a specific segment, in this case the sex chromosomes, and they specifically mentioned Khelif. They also sent a letter to the Algerian Boxing Federation that she had to do this testing or she couldn't compete in the Eindhoven Box Cup (which starts today).
JC,YFIIS Part II: Simone Biles has apologized for her criticism of anti-trans activist Riley Gaines. She apologized for personal attacks, but also talked about separate-but-equal leagues for trans athletes.
The Southern Baptists have decided to try to make it their goal to ban sports betting, pornography, and marriage equality:
Transgender actress Jen Richards was amongst those that were hit with so-called 'less-lethal munitions' in LA this past weekend.
There's a GFM for a trans woman from West Philadelphia who was on her way to Philly Pride when she was received second and third degree burns on face, legs, arms, neck and torso, after being hit with what is believed to be battery acid. By kids. She's going to need skin grafts. As a trans woman in West Philly, this fucking terrifies me.
And a man was shot and killed in Philly's Gayborhood shortly after the Pride festival for the day ended.
To close this out: GLAAD released their third annual Anti-LGBTQ Extremism Report Tracker (ALERT) Report, which documents queerphobic incidents and hate across the United States. There were 932 attacks between May 1, 2024 and May 1, 2025. 2.5 a day.
The Good News
The Supreme Court of Puerto Rico has ruled that nonbinary people can change their birth certificates to have an "X" gender designation. stating that "The current Birth Certificate Policy of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico arbitrarily distinguishes between binary and nonbinary individuals and subjects nonbinary individuals to disfavored treatment, without any justification for doing so."
Michael Flynn, Jr. used a meme from the show Parks and Recreation to hate on Pride Month. The actor shown in the meme, Nick Offerman (in his iconic character as Ron Swanson), replied to the nepo baby with the elegance of a samurai with expertise in iaijutsu: "“Ron was best man at a gay wedding you dumb fuck. #HappyPride" Offerman has shown himself repeatedly to be an ally, and that people who assume that Ron Swanson would be MAGA should, to quote Ron, “Put some alcohol in your mouth to block words from coming out.”
Jo Frost from Supernanny has advised parents to raise their children “to believe that everyone is worthy of love, no matter who they love or how they identify”.
While discussing HIV, let's make sure we read the post by kristi about a breakthrough in the search for an HIV cure from Melbourne, Australia.
Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT), with support from Rep. Jeff Merkley (D-OR), filed the No Place for LGBTQ+ Hate Act to starve the anti-LGBTQIA+ executive orders of money.,
Billboard has made a list of the top 100 LGBTQ+ Pride Anthems of all time. To keep it fair, it's just one song from any given artist, so it's not just ABBA's entire oeveur. #1 is... Lady Gaga's Born This Way.
The Cinnamon Roll Report
An open letter begging Congress not to defund the 988 Suicide Hotline and Crisis Lifeline's LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services was created by The Trevor Project and signed by over 100 celebrities Signatories include Jamie Lee Curtis, Christina Aguilera, Ariana Grande, Daniel "Fuck You, Jo" Radcliffe, Dwayne Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union-Wade, Bob the Drag Queen, former Queer Eye interior designer Bobby Berk, Margaret Cho, Nathan Lane, and, of course, since it's down here.... During World Pride in Washington DC,
“This decision was based on a history and pattern of destructive and disorderly behavior from unpermitted activities happening in the park during past DC Pride weekends, including vaŋdalism in 2023 that resulted in approximately $175,000 in damage to the historic Dupont Circle fountain."Oddly, the was no news report of that damage at the time, with the entire celebration being described as a mainly peaceful event. It should be noted that the fountain was undergoing some renovations at the time as well. Less than 24 hours after making that declaration, the NPS about-faced so fast it make a snapping noise and said the park would be open.

The Southern Baptists have decided to try to make it their goal to ban sports betting, pornography, and marriage equality:
Representatives from the largest Protestant denomination in the U.S. will consider the measures Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as an internal proposal seeking to ban churches with women pastors and one that would rescind funding for the organization's public policy branch over its failure to endorse criminal charges for people who have abortions. How about we ban the Southern Baptists?
One proposed resolution reported by ABC in essence tells legislators to ignore separation of church and state because they have a duty to “pass laws that reflect the truth of creation and natural law — about marriage, sex, human life, and family” and to oppose laws that supposedly go against “what God has made plain through nature and Scripture.”

The HIV detection breakthrough feels like a significant development. Hopefully we're close to banishing this from living in my head rent free for the last 40ish years.
In minor news, my sister and I had a good long talk this past weekend about Murderbot and pronouns and she repeatedly referred to the "LGBTQ-AI" community. A Freudian portmanteau perhaps.

genuine question, is calling the actor 'Pablo Pascal' just doing a bit that I'm not understanding, or is there another cinnamon roll actor surnamed Pascal I'm not aware of?

I don't think it's come up on the blue; this thread seems like a fine place to share.

Always learning something new every day: What a "cinnamon roll" is (according to various sources I found, it means someone who is very kind, supportive, warm, optimistic, and in LGBTQ circles is used for that kind of ally regardless of gender or sexuality - if there's more details, please add)

For people with access, BBC 6 Music did an excellent Loud and Proud block last week, with shows by queer artists. I loved Jacob Alon and Tiberius b sharing a mic and choosing songs for prompts like 'your first kiss', and Tom Robinson interviewing Kae Tempest, but I could link them all, they're delightful.

Went to two local Pride parades this weekend- the small town one was great, lots of local businesses and artists and activist groups, I got a bunch of good contacts for the ol' political activism rolodex. The big city one by contrast was the biggest shitshow I've ever seen- out of about 300 stalls, there were all of three local artists and they decided to put them next to six local law enforcement/fbi booths. The majority of the remaining booths were churches, vape shops, megacorp sponsors, and cheap-plastic-import-merch. None of the active political groups had a table or representation that I saw. The healthcare tent was stuck in a far corner behind the portapotties. I literally got stopped by some cishet salesguy trying to sell me on a timeshare vacation, and another trying to hit me up about my house's gutters. Big City Pride group, wtf are you doing? I cannot imagine an event more antithetical to everything Pride is supposed to stand for.

Good news:
Direct from Lambda Legal: Federal Court Blocks Trump Anti-Equity and Anti-Transgender Executive Orders Targeting LGBTQ and HIV-Serving Nonprofits - this is the June 9 ruling in San Francisco AIDS Foundation v. Trump.
Lambda Legal currently has 6 open cases against the current administration. They achieved an 86% success rate in their court actions against the last Trump administration.
(Thank you, again and again, mephron. I doubt I would have thought to post this to the front page, but it's wonderful to be able to contribute it to your splendid post.)

Apparently some people have been complaining about Hunter Schafer being in the running to play Zelda an an upcoming Legend of Zelda movie. Every time I've seen it, has been in a reply noting that they're using photos where she looks like she's really an elf. (And she does.) Just a stupid argument all around.
