Using data from the US Office of Social Security, which bases the country's life expectancy on 2020 mortality rates, Visual Capitalist charted how many years the average American has left to live, depending on their age.
As the visualization shows, the gap between men and women's average life expectancies shrinks over time โ though US women still live slightly longer overall. In general, though, the population's average life expectancy increases as people get older; for example, the average American baby boy has around 74 years ahead of him at birth, but by 21, he can expect to live to just past 75.
