Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was taken to the hospital Tuesday after she suffered an allergic reaction.

“Secretary Noem had an allergic reaction. She was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. She is alert and recovering," Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

Noem was released later that night, McLaughlin said.

A DHS official told NBC News that Noem was at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington when she had the allergic reaction.

Noem had a scheduled press conference Wednesday morning, but it was postponed.

News of her brief hospitalization comes days after Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla was forcibly removed from her news conference in Los Angeles. A top FBI official said bureau personnel and Secret Service agents removed Padilla after he tried to address her.

Video of the incident showed the plainclothes officers pushing Padilla into the hallway. Officers with FBI-identifying vests were seen telling Padilla, who was lying face down on the ground, to put his hands behind his back.

In an interview with Fox News, Noem falsely said Padilla did not identify himself before he was forced out.
