Hurts was replaced by quarterback Kenny Pickett, who subsequently threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to receiver A.J. Brown.
Late in the second quarter, the Eagles declared Hurts done for the day.
The Commanders won the game 36-33 thanks to five touchdown passes from Jayden Daniels. Pickett finished 14-for-24 passing for 143 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
Hurts, 26, led the Eagles to a 10-game winning streak entering the matchup. He has 2,892 yards passing with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions this season to go along with 589 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.
