The Five Most Unforgivable Oscars Snubs Of 2025
There are some glaring omissions from the 97th Academy Awards' nominations.

Nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were announced on January 23, with "Emilia Pérez," "Wicked" and "The Brutalist" sweeping the race — but what about the films, actors and directors that didn't get the recognition they deserved?

As far as we're concerned, there are a few too many of them.

Ahead of the Oscars ceremony on March 2, here are five glaring omissions from this year's nominations that we won't be forgiving any time soon. Think we missed any? Let us know in the comments.

'Nosferatu'

This campy Gothic horror from Robert Eggers wasn't totally ignored by the Academy — it's been nominated for Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Makeup & Hairstyling and Best Costume Design — but its stars have been unfairly overlooked.

Lily-Rose Depp gives a career-defining performance as the tormented Ellen Hutter, Bill Skarsgård delivers a deliciously theatrical Count Orlok, and Nicholas Hoult's dramatic offering as Ellen's husband is more than praiseworthy. A few acting nominations definitely wouldn't have gone amiss here.

'Kneecap'

"Kneecap," Ireland's Oscars entry for 2025, may be one of the films US audiences are least familiar with, but it's arguably among those most deserving of the Academy's recognition.

The Irish-language, fictionalized biopic — which tells the story of a very real, very controversial hip-hop trio from Belfast — is a funny, gripping and truly one-of-a-kind film. It's equal parts surprising and disappointing that it didn't manage to pick up a nomination for either Best International Picture or Best Original Song.

'Babygirl'

In Halina Reijn's "Babygirl," an erotic thriller about a CEO's torrid affair with her intern, Nicole Kidman gives us one of the best and boldest performances of her storied career. It earned her the Venice Film Festival's Best Actress award and a Golden Globe nomination, which makes it all the more puzzling that she's not even in the running for an Oscars win this year.

(Also, if it were up to us, the scene where Harris Dickinson dances to George Michael would win a prize all of its own.)

'A Real Pain'

Jesse Eisenberg's second film as writer and director, "A Real Pain" is a heartfelt comedy that follows two Jewish American cousins (Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin) as they travel to Poland to connect with their family heritage. Although Culkin received an Oscar nom for Best Supporting Actor and Eisenberg secured one for Best Original Screenplay, some Academy appreciation for Eisenberg's acting and directing is sorely deserved, too.

'Challengers'

A film about lust, rivalry and tennis, Luca Guadagnino's "Challengers" seemed a shoo-in for an Oscars win when it hit theaters last April. From Zendaya, Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist's stellar performances to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross's pumping soundtrack, the movie won the acclaim of fans and critics alike. It also earned itself a string of awards and nominations — just not from the Academy.

This is without a doubt the most egregious and perplexing omission from this year's Oscars, and they owe us all an explanation.
