In the US, only around six percent of millennial households make $200,000 or more in adjusted gross income (AGI) β€” and some parts of the country are home to a larger share of these high-earners than others.

The team at SmartAsset analyzed IRS data from the 2022 tax year to find out how many households aged 26 to 44 had AGIs of $200,000 or more β€” the IRS's definition of a "high earner" β€” around the country.

Using this data, we mapped the percentage of high-earning millennials per state.

There were just two states where more than 10 percent of millennial households earned at least $200,000: Washington (11.5 percent) and Massachusetts (10.4 percent).

The third-ranking state was New Jersey, where the share of high-earning millennial households stood at 9.87 percent, followed by California, where it was 9.41 percent.

The lowest shares of high-earning millennials were found in Mississippi (2.14 percent), West Virginia (2.47 percent) and New Mexico (2.51 percent).
