Shelved by Genre is a podcast [Apple link and RSS feed] where Cameron Kunzelman, Michael Lutz and Austin Walker discuss science fiction, fantasy and horror fiction books (and the occasional movie), in great detail. The first season was on Gene Wolfe’s book of the New Sun, the second on Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea Cycle, followed by a season on Junji Itō, and they have now started on Mercedes Lackey’s Last Herald-Mage trilogy. The hosts are fans, but also discuss the works critically.
I got into Shelved by Genre because I decided to finally take the plunge of reading book of the New Sun and had heard Austin Walker talk about doing that on another podcast. There were aspects of book of the New Sun I knew about that put me off giving it a try (despite loving Three Heads of Cerberus) but I figured if I had co-readers who I trusted to discuss the problematic stuff forthrightly, I would be able to get past it. So far that’s been the case, and when I’ve gone “what the everliving fuck, Gene”, they’ve had a similar response.
I'll admit I’m more excited about revisiting Earthsea with them, but I wanted to listen in order. Junji Itō doesn’t sound like my cup of tea, though perhaps once I’ve gone through Earthsea, I’ll want to continue to read along.

I read some Ito when I was younger and saw the appeal but it's not my preferred genre either. Shelved by Genre helped making the Ito reading experience somewhat more enjoyable, but at the same time it also made sense they chose his work as "light summer reads" (Wolfe, Le Guin and - I have no doubt - Lackey are just richer in their underlying themes).

(I fell off Wolfe after the first book and did not want to listen to the podcast alone; haven't started with Lackey yet but looking forward to it!)
Well recommended!
