Intelligence Quotient (IQ) scores, based on the results of standardized tests, are one way of measuring human intelligence. The average IQ score worldwide stands at around 100, but it should be noted that IQ testing has its limitations and does not account for every type of intelligence a person may possess.
To show how Americans' IQ scores vary across the country, VisualCapitalist used data from a 2022 report to map the average IQ in each US state.
The highest average IQ score was found in Massachusetts (104.3), followed by New Hampshire (104.2), North Dakota (103.8) and Vermont (103.8).
A total of 20 states have IQ scores that fall below the global average, including Mississippi (94.2), Louisiana (95.3), California (95.5), Hawaii (95.6) and Alabama (95.7).
