The US saw lots of people move between states last year, but it also welcomed a whole bunch of new residents from foreign countries โ 2.4 million, to be exact.
Using US Census Bureau data, Visual Capitalist mapped the migration flows of those who lived in a foreign country one year ago and now reside in a US state or Puerto Rico, as of 2023.
Some of the country's largest states received the highest number of foreign migrants overall. California topped the list with 313,560, followed by Florida (289,829), Texas (264,501) and New York (163,636).
Vermont (2,065), South Dakota (2,172) and Wyoming (2,353) saw the fewest new residents from foreign countries in 2023.
