The truly wealthy aren't concerned about making sure everyone knows that they're unbelievably rich. Sure, they have super yachts and lambos, but you're not running into those at the mall or around the corner from your home.

If you're seeing people conspicuously decked out in broad daylight, they're probably only cosplaying the ultra-wealthy lifestyle. Redditor u/JollySimple188 wanted to know a few of these red flags, and the AskReddit folks were happy to dish on the topic.

What screams “I’m just pretending to be rich”?

Since we're squarely in the working class, we put in the labor of picking out the best ways to identify the faux riche for you. With all the time we just saved you, comrade, you could go out and rail against capital and the bourgeoisie dogs.

Being a walking billboard for brands is silly

Unless that sports car is parked in a garage attached to an opulent mansion, that person probably isn't rich

If they're posing with stacks of cash on social media, they're definitely not rich

Bragging about how much they spend is embarrassing

If they're obsessing over how they can make more money, they're not rich. Real rich folks have people who do that for them

If you care about how many followers you have on social media or promote yourself as a influencer, you aren't rich.

I have two that bother me:
1.) Wealthy business owners that appear on stage with politicians (yes, you Elon)
2.) People with expensive cars that park them on a curb because they can't afford renting a garage.

  3. Yet at the same time, Real America is being taught, conditioned even, by conservative-leaning prolefeed to believe that free-enterprise capitalism, and ONLY free-enterprise capitalism (with apologies here to Mary Baker Eddy, The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science), "has always met and will always meet every human need"!

Further reinforced, as necessary, with the British Conservative Party's slogan of the late 1950's and early 1960's, before the Profumo Affair upended everything, "YOU NEVER HAD IT SO GOOD!" (Delivered in a Joe Isuzu stylee goloss, not unlike his "Would I lie to you?" trademark line.)

The machine conditions us to feed itself. In an unchecked capitalist system, individual "value" is gauged by a person's ability to either produce or consume. We are trained in this thinking from a very early age. It is all a lie.
