Joe Biden Wandering Off Into The Rainforest, And More Of This Week's 'One Main Character'
Every day, somebody says or does something that earns them the scorn of the internet. Here at Digg, as part of our mission to curate what the internet is talking about right now, we rounded up the main characters on X from this past week and held them accountable for their actions.
Each day on twitter there is one main character. The goal is to never be it

This week, we've got a weird car company re-brand, a pop star's controversial artwork, an unhinged job offer, a questionable show of solidarity and the US president disappearing into the Amazon rainforest.
Tuesday
Jaguar
The character: Jaguar, car company, doesn't like to copy things
The plot: Car company Jaguar, known for its iconic leaping cat logo, announced this week that it was rebranding, and dropped a shiny new colorful ad that was unlike anything the car maker had done or looked like before. "Copy nothing," it wrote on X.

The company's rebrand was immediately met with backlash, and a lot of people online were perplexed by the ad.
The repercussion: While some people were genuinely curious, a lot of folks thought the car company's pivot was simply weird and weren't having any of it.
Soon you'll see things our way.

Kesha
The character: Kesha, pop star, alleged AI user
The plot: On Thursday, singer Kesha announced the release date for her new single "Delusional" by sharing a photo of the cover art on X. The image features a pile of handbags with the word "delusional" spray-painted on them โ though many of the words are spelled wrong.
DELUSIONAL

NOVEMBER 29TH https://t.co/V3L0HlpRZI pic.twitter.com/VV1W0ZLPd3
The repercussion: X users accused the pop star of using AI to create the image, and criticized her for cheaping out when there are countless artists and graphic designers out there who could have been paid to do a much better job.
kesha ilysm but never use ai ever again... not only it has many errors, it is also disrespectful to designers https://t.co/7pviPqdmWM

as a visual artist im offended, someone who is privilege enough to afford designers using ai to save bunch of bucks is truly decline of creativity. yeah not supporting on this one.

Deepinder Goyal
The character: Deepinder Goyal, Zomato CEO, retrospective prankster
The plot: Deepinder Goyal, the CEO of Indian food delivery company Zomato, put out an ad for a personal assistant that had one catch. The candidate would get no salary for the first year, and instead would have to pay roughly $23,000 to him for the opportunity.
Just like a modern-day MBA program, Goyal invited the wrath of almost everyone with his little gimmick.
Update: I am looking for a chief of staff for myself. pic.twitter.com/R4XPp3CefJ
โ Deepinder Goyal (@deepigoyal) November 20, 2024
The repercussion: Goyal let his post be for a day before he provided an update, in which he said that it was engineered to spark outrage. "We have a lot of people who don't have the money and still wrote in, without feeling constrained about the 20 lacs [~$23K]. Those are the people we will interview for the job. Not the ones who have the money," Goyal responded to one of the comments that called him out.
Whether or not this was Goyal's master plan is hard to determine, but since there are headlines about him doing this kind of thing before, that explanation seems a bit too convenient.

John Stamos
The character: John Stamos, famous TV actor, half-hearted ally
The plot: In a very sad turn of events, Dave Coulier was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Since he'll likely be losing his hair due to chemotherapy, he decided to shave his head in preparation. That's perfectly standard, but the weird part comes when Stamos got in on the action.
Instead of shaving his head too, or simply wishing his "Full House" co-star well, he decided to wear a bald cap "in solidarity."

โ Pop Base (@PopBase) November 19, 2024
The repercussion: Nobody online was impressed with the odd decision to slap on a bald cap and call it a day โ and it ended up taking the attention away from the person who is actually dealing with a serious medical condition.

Joe Biden
The character: Joe Biden, US president, forest wanderer
The plot: On the weekend, Joe Biden became the first US president to visit the Amazon rainforest. He was there to declare November 17 International Conservation Day, and vow that the US will spend millions on conservation efforts in the Amazon โ but people were, as usual, distracted by his behavior.
The repercussion: A clip of Biden during his trip, in which he waves goodbye and wanders off into the jungle after speaking, really captured the imagination of people online.
