In a brand new ad, Sony has just announced that the price of the disc-free model of the PlayStation 5 will be dropped down to $379.99 โ a $70 discount. However, there is a catch: You only have until December 24, 2024 to take advantage of the price cut.
Update: Sony has pulled the ad with the updated pricing, and re-uploaded it without the original sale text. Presumably, they posted the ad too early.

Just last week, Sony delivered the beefier PS5 Pro for a whopping $700, and this temporary price cut on the base model makes that an even harder sell. Sure, games will run a little bit better on the more expensive hardware, but not nearly enough to justify the price difference for most folks.
But keep in mind that if you do end up wanting a disc drive for this digital-only console, you'll need to shell out $79.99 for the add-on. That is, if you can even find it in stock. It's been hard to source for a while now.
