The gender pay gap in the US is persistent β€” the average woman makes just 84 cents for every dollar earned by a man β€” and the gig economy is no exception.

To illustrate America's freelance pay gap, OnDeck analyzed the hourly rate charged by over 9,000 US-based freelancers across 11 work categories, then calculated the difference in rates between men and women in each state.

Overall, men charge 26.4 percent more for freelance work than women do. The average hourly rate for women in the US is just $59.70, compared to $75.44 for men.

Wyoming has the biggest pay gap in the country, with men freelancers charging an average of $55.89 an hour more than women. North Dakota ($42.58) and Vermont ($36.83) follow behind.

The only state where the average woman charges more than the average man for freelance gigs is Delaware, with a difference of $13.83 an hour.
