It Takes More Than 10 Years Of Work To Afford A Condo In These Cities
Using data from the UBS Global Real Estate Bubble Index for 2024, Visual Capitalist visualized the average number of years a skilled worker must work to buy a 650-square-foot condo near the center of selected cities worldwide.
The costliest city to buy a condo in is Hong Kong, where it takes an average of more than two decades of work to be able to afford one. One of the densest cities in the world, Hong Kong has topped the list of most unaffordable cities globally for 14 consecutive years.
Second place goes to Tokyo, where 14 years of work are required. Paris, which ranks third overall, is the least affordable city in Europe (13 years).
A condo near New York's city center requires eight years of work, on average, while people in Los Angeles would have to work for seven years to save for a place.
