Using data from GoBankingRates, Visual Capitalist illustrated the yearly salary needed to buy a home in the ten wealthiest towns in the US. Figures are accurate as of September 2024.

Palm Beach, Florida, tops the list, with a salary of more than $2.3 million required to afford a typical home. The average Palm Beach household makes $366,000 a year.

There are four other towns where a salary of at least $1 million is needed, and they're all in California: Atherton ($1.5 million), Los Altos Hills ($1.1 million), Montecito ($1.1 million) and Hillsborough ($1 million).
