A recent study by WalletHub compared US states across six metrics β median family income, educational quality, housing affordability, healthcare quality and paid family leave β and scored them out of 100.
Using the scores for each state, Visual Capitalist mapped the best places to raise a family in America.
The top-scoring state is Massachusetts (69 points), which ranked first overall for both education and childcare and affordability. Minnesota (63) and North Dakota (62) take second and third place, respectively.
When it comes to the study's poorest-ranking states for raising a family, New Mexico (32) leads, with the worst education and childcare score of any state. Following behind is Mississippi (35), which ranks lowest in the country for health and safety.
