Stuck in a World of Twin Languages and 600 Pronouns tells the story of a dimension-hopping linguist trying to understand and survive a language spoken by intelligent and/or cybernetic palm trees. Each chapter brings new orthographic and societal horrors. And yes, there's a tonal variant, since creator ZeWei has experience making songs with conlangs.

Absolutely incredible. Really amazing piece of world-building even though the nightmarish complexity of the language was often way over my head.
Genuinely one of the best things I've seen on here in ages. Thanks for posting it!

I was definitely more Zaueisunga than Zaueizi throughout but the layered buildup makes it almost possible to learn something, if not about this language then about others...

TLDR but it reminds of a cartoon from the National Lampoon titled something like “Saturday Night on Xorx.” Someone goes out to a bar looking for a one night hookup. They find someone, but then the two of them have to go to another bar, and another, and another, because on this planet there are 20 or so sexes and you need one of each to copulate. So each frame adds another weird looking alien. And finally in the second to last frame they have their big orgasmic puppy pile and then they wake up and of course no one knows anyone else’s name.
But 600 pronouns would be worse.

This replicates the feeling of starting work at a new software company and having to learn their in-house custom programming language with eerie precision.
