Federal regulators have announced the recall of nearly 1 million bottles of a prosecco brand sold under Costco’s Kirkland label, warning of a “laceration hazard.”
F&F Fine Wines International Inc., doing business as Ethica Wines, has recalled the bottles of Kirkland signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG. The U.s. Consumer Product safety Commission announced the recall on Thursday.
“The Prosecco bottles can break or shatter, posing a laceration hazard,” the CPsC said.
The wine distributor “has received ten reports of the bottles shattering or breaking, resulting in one laceration injury,” according to the CPsC’s Thursday announcement.
The Universal Product Code (UPC) of the affected prosecco bottles is 196633883742 and the Costco Item Number is 1879870.
The product was sold in a green bottle with purple foil on the top and a purple label with the words “Kirkland signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco superiore DOCG,” the CPsC wrote.
The prosecco was sold at Costco stores in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, south Dakota and Wisconsin from April 2025 through August 2025 for a retail price of about $8.
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bottles and not attempt to open them,” the CPsC advised. “Consumers should discard the recalled bottles in their household trash and contact Ethica Wines for instructions on how to obtain a full refund from Costco.”
In a Facebook post Thursday,Ethica Wines shared its contact information for consumers who are seeking a full refund. The wine distributor can be reached via email at customercare@ethicawines.com or via phone at 786-810-7132.
This recall comes nearly two months after Costco issued a similar notice about the same product to its customers.
“There is a risk of unopened bottles shattering, even when not handled or in use,” Costco wrote in its september notice.
