Using the results of a survey by YouGov, Visual Capitalist ranked the most-liked business figures in the US. Figures are accurate as of September 2024.

Former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates is both the most famous and most popular business figure on the list; 97 percent of Americans know who he is, while 45 percent view him positively.

World-famous investor Warren Buffet has the second-highest popularity rating (44 percent), followed by Mark Cuban (43 percent) and Elon Musk (42 percent).

Despite there being around 130 million iPhone users in the US, just 65 percent of people surveyed know who Apple CEO Tim Cook is โ€” and fewer than half of those (30 percent) have a positive opinion of him.

Though some of the biggest names in business are more popular than others, the chart shows that the majority of Americans don't like any of them.

This chart is misleading. The way it's constructed suggests that the respondents answered in one of just two ways, they liked them or didn't. In reality, there were four possible responses: Positive, Negative, Neutral, or Don't Know Them. The Fame value only hints at this. In this chart, Gates beats Buffet by 1 point in terms of Positive impressions. However, Gates is also far more *disliked* than Buffet: 27% to 15%. They're about equal in terms of neutral opinions, and more people don't know who Buffet is.

When analysis of ratings and reviews are done, there is often an examined metric that (to oversimplify) subtracts the negative score from the positive one. The purpose of this metric is to (again, an oversimplification) get a feel for what the general sentiment is among people who have an opinion about the subject. If we look at this "net favorability score", this is what the ranking looks like:
    Gates: 18
    Buffet: 29
    Cuban: 25
    Musk: 7
    Zuckerberg: -1
    Trump Jr. -3
    Branson: 19
    Lindell: 9
    E. Trump: -8
    Cook: 16

If we sort by these values, this is what the chart looks like:
    Buffet: 29
    Cuban: 25
    Branson: 19
    Gates: 18
    Cook: 16
    Lindell: 9
    Musk: 7
    Zuckerberg: -1
    Trump Jr.: -3
    E. Trump: -8

I am really skeptical of these results. Gates is very well known compared to the rest, but if he is more popular than Buffett, I will eat a cover from the Windows 95 CD
