The caps lock key has a long history of controversy on the internet. After all, overuse tends to be broadly understood to indicate that you're SCREAMING AT YOUR AUDIENCE.

Finally, one brave soul has solved the problem of capitalization politeness: LeT gO, aNd LeT cRoWd.

If you want to join in on the FUN, you can download the open-source client, and let your caps lock be controlled by complete strangers. Of course, you can hit the caps lock key yourself, and that'll change the state for you and everyone else as well.

Just don't expect it to stay that way for very long.

But if you're not brave enough to install the client yourself, you can always check in on the website to see how rapidly the internet has decided to toggle the caps lock key on and off.

Nolen "eieio" Royalty, the creator of this social experiment, has also put out a number of neat projects like "1Crossword" (a password manager and crossword mashup), "One Million Checkboxes" (what it says on the tin) and "PacCam" (where your face becomes a very hungry little fella).

We love the old web and weird websites of all kinds, so it's been an absolute pleasure to see fun, silly ideas like this coming from a single person. Consider this your propers, Nolen.
