I was a Mormon missionary for two years back in the 90's. The thing most people don't know is that most missionaries hate going door to door. It's the worst activity, it's not productive, nobody likes it, and it offers a lot of rejection and fear. If you want to have a little fun and do a favor to a couple of young people, try saying this when they get to your door: "Hey, look, I don't want to hear any lessons, but I like meeting people. I would love to have you inside to chat over a snack if you promise not to try to teach anything and just have a real conversation about anything other than religion." Most missionaries, including myself, would be totally happy with that arrangement and would jump at the chance to relax and just talk as people.
