Not all shows on Cartoon Network — the birthplace of many hit series, including "Adventure Time," "The Powerpuff Girls" and "Teen Titans" — made it big, and burned itself into the corneas of bored preteens with cable.
Rather, some of the network's shows were only around for a season, never to be teased again with a reboot, prequel or even a spin-off series. Here are five shows Cartoon Network canceled, despite some being well-received and remembered till the day.
'Robotomy' (2010)
Plot: This dark comedy centered on two teen robots, Thrasher and Blastus, trying to the survive the most violent place on their violent planet... high school!
Reason for cancellation: Despite positive reviews, "Robotomy" struggled to attract a wide-enough audience. The show's niche appeal and overall lack of promotion also likely contributed to its cancellation after just one season.
'Beware The Batman' (2013-2014)
Plot: A bold reinvention of the Batman universe, "Beware the Batman" used CGI animation and focused on lesser-known villains like Anarky, Magpie and professor Pyg. Iconic foes like Joker and Penguin were not included as to focus on more niche lore.
Reason for cancellation: The high production costs, paired with low toy sales and dwindling ratings ultimately sealed its fate. Not even a Toonami run was enough to attract a larger audience.
'Green Lantern: The Animated Series' (2011-2013)
Plot: This series followed Hal Jordan, the first human member of the Green Lantern Corps, as he patrolled the far reaches of space.
Reason for cancellation: Despite critical acclaim and a devoted fan base, the show was canceled after one season. One factor was poor toy sales, compounded by the failure of the live-action Green Lantern movie in 2011, which unfortunately flooded stores with even more unsold merchandise.
'Sym-Bionic Titan' (2010-2011)
Plot: This sci-fi high school drama followed three alien heroes — Ilana, Lance and Octus — who needed to blend in as students on Earth, all while piloting a giant robot to protect the planet from intergalactic threats and hoping nobody notices.
Reason for cancellation: Though it gained a notable cult following, the show was reportedly canceled due to merchandising issues. Cartoon Network was seeking shows that could generate toy sales, and Titan's lack of marketable toys contributed to its cancellation.
'Mega Man: Fully Charged' (2018)
Plot: A reboot of the beloved Mega Man franchise, this series followed Aki Light, a young robot boy who transforms into the heroic Mega Man to take down rogue robots wreaking havoc across Silicon City.
Reason for cancellation: Despite the iconic status of the Mega Man brand, the show failed to capture a strong audience, with both older fans and younger viewers finding it lackluster.
