How venues are trying to make gigs more accessible. These venues are proving a commitment to accessibility can start with simple, cheap and practical changes, that can make an important difference.
A restaurant-with-a-possible-small-stage owner I was talking with a few months back told me that although she liked having musicians there (hence our conversation), she found that she would get bothered by ASCAP on matters of what could be played. She said that they could be aggressive.
I expect others here have more to say on the subject, and I'd be interested to hear what they have to say on this (admittedly slightly parallel track) issue.

I also liked that this article talked about performers as well as attendees.
