Using 2024 analysis by Bankrate β€” which ranked US states based on affordability, wellbeing, healthcare, weather and crime β€” the charts below show the best and worst parts of the country to retire in.

The best state for retirees overall is Delaware, which ranks highly for wellbeing and good weather. Following behind in second and third place are West Virginia, which has the best affordability score of any state, and Georgia.

When it comes to the worst states for retirement, Alaska tops the list, with the worst weather in the country and similarly poor scores for healthcare, affordability and crime.

Other regions for retirees to avoid include New York, which is the second-worst state for affordability, and Washington, where the cost of living drags an otherwise high-scoring state down.

Lol. Many of the top 10 states to retire in are in the bottom half regarding healthcare. So we're old and we're supposed to move where healthcare is bad?

Also, there is no reality in which West Virginia is the 2nd most desirable state to retire to.

This post is trash and it is the second trash post today from Visual Capitalist and posted by the same user.

You couldn't pay me enough to retire in a red state. I'll pay the price to live in a state where a majority of the people are decent human beings.

So you want to live in a blue state where most people are not decent human beings either?

I don't care how affordable it is, when I'm retirement age I don't want to live in the state with the worst health care.
