All over the world, there are far too many people earning far too little money — see here and here for some US examples — but in some countries, the wealth of the average person is staggeringly high.
Based on a 2024 report by UBS, the graphic below ranks the countries with the highest average and median wealth per person.
When it comes to average figures — a country's total wealth divided by the adult population — Switzerland tops the list, with the average wealth per person standing at $709,600 in 2023.
Looking in median terms, however, we see a more representative measure of a country's wealth. After dividing a population's total wealth in half, with half of people having more and half having less, the typical person is richest in Luxembourg ($372,258) — which is home to the highest density of millionaires in the world.
