Over on Reddit, u/chartr shared a graph that showed the unemployment rates for US college grads and workers between 1995 and 2024 β€” and recent grads are having a particularly difficult time right now.

According to the latest New York Fed figures, the unemployment rate for new college grads (aged 22 to 27 with a bachelor's degree or higher) stands at 5.3 percent β€” the highest it's been in two years.

Not only are recent grads experiencing more than double the unemployment rate for all college graduates (2.5 percent), but their situation is also significantly worse than that of the average American worker, which hasn't been the case for decades.
