Americans In These States Are Paying The Most For Their Thanksgiving Turkey
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, Americans across the country are out buying their turkey and trimmings β but some of them will be spending more on their meal's centerpiece than others.
To find out where in the US people are paying the most for a Thanksgiving turkey, FinanceBuzz analyzed prices in at least three grocery stores in each state and mapped the average costs. For reference, the average price of a 15-pound turkey across the US is $31.16.
Turkeys are most expensive in Hawaii, where residents can expect to pay an average of $52.85 β almost 70 percent above the national average. Residents of Alaska, another non-mainland state, face the second-highest price ($44.85).
California has pricier turkeys than anywhere else on the mainland, with a 15-pounder costing $39.85, on average. Connecticut, Montana and New Jersey are tied for the fourth-highest turkey price ($36.85).
The country's cheapest turkeys are found in Oklahoma, where shoppers can get a 15-pound turkey for just $19.75, while Louisianans will spend an average of just $19.80.
