The invention of album art can get lost in the story of technological mastery. But among all the factors that contributed to the rise of recorded music, it stands as one of the few that was wholly driven by creators themselves. Last year I happened upon some original Blue Note records in superb condition and decided to scan the covers. Reid Miles is mentioned in the OP and he did these covers.

I know I have felt less connected to music over the decades and maybe it has a little to do with how MP3s and streaming don't really offer much beyond the track itself, let alone the experience of a record.
