Last week, DHS announced it was terminating their legal protections as soon as Sept. 2, setting more than 500,000 Haitians up for potential deportation.
The Buffalo Soldiers served in six military units created after the Civil War in 1866. They were formerly enslaved men, freemen and Black Civil War soldiers and fought in hundreds of conflicts.
Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, for some 521,000 Haitians living in the U.S. will terminate in September, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said.
