Taco Bell isn’t afraid to experiment, and I do I wish it did sometimes. This year has been dramatic for everyone, but the Mexican-inspired fast-food chain said, "hold my salsa packets" and gave us lackluster nuggets, salsa, desserts and a big Cheeze-It instead to cope with it all.
If you missed these items, consider yourself lucky — because I wasn’t. Taco Bell, if you’re reading this, here are five menu items that I deeply regret tasting this year.
Chicken Nuggets

Taco Bell’s take on nuggets features the same pieces of breaded chicken bites served with a selection of dipping sauces.These nuggets nearly took out one of my molars. The sauces — jalapeño honey mustard and Bell Sauce — didn’t help either; they tasted like they came straight from a school cafeteria. There’s no secret sauce here, just another reason to stick with Raising Cane's.

This dessert tries to reimagine the iconic Baja Blast drink as a frozen treat. But, it's turned into a frozen flop that’s as disappointing as it sounds. The idea of a Baja Blast-inspired gelato seems fun, but my love for the drink couldn’t stretch far enough to cover all of its faults on display here. It’s just flavored ice, and honestly, most store-bought frozen treats could do better.
Cheez-It Tostada

The so-called dream collab is a giant Cheez-It cracker, topped with Taco Bell’s signature beef, cheese and sour cream. Unfortunately, this pairing turns into a nightmare really quick. The oversized Cheez-It gets soggy almost instantly and tastes like a flimsy chip.
Strawberry Twists

A fruity version of the beloved Cinnamon Twists, these ones are dusted with strawberry-flavored powder. Sadly, they’re a complete misstep. I like twists because they make me feel slightly less indulgent than the heavier Cinnamon Balls, but these had barely a hint of strawberry, and tasted more like the air around me than an actual dessert.
