To imply that the Vice-President has ZERO input on Executive Branch policies and decisions would be untrue and in-fact VP's are often delegated responsibilities by the President. In VP Harris's case she was delegated responsibility for Border Security and we can all see how that was handled.
He's right !
The fact is, this debate was not at all necessary.
VP's do not have the power to make decisions on much of anything.
They take their orders from their boss....the President.
Their only official functions are to certify a Presidential election vote, and to be a deciding vote in the Senate when the vote counts are tied for a particular bill.
Additionally, of course, they must be as well versed as the President on all topics in case the President is unable to continue his/her duties.
That's it !
None of us needed to hear the gibberish about what THEY would do.
VP is not "just a pawn". Theyre not there to change policies and enact control, but as a checks and balances holding powers as such. Hence Pence's responsibilities during the last election.
"The Constitution names the vice president of the United States as the president of the Senate. In addition to serving as presiding officer, the vice president has the sole power to break a tie vote in the Senate and formally presides over the receiving and counting of electoral ballots cast in presidential elections." https://www.senate.gov/about/officers-staff/vice-president.htm
