Using data from the 2023 INRIX Global Traffic Scorecard — which ranked global cities based on the average number of hours lost to traffic congestion per driver, when driving during peak commute hours compared to during off-peak hours — Visual Capitalist mapped the world's worst cities for rush hour traffic.
The city with the worst rush hour congestion overall is New York City, where the average driver spent 101 hours in a traffic jam in 2023. Following behind are London (99 hours), Paris (97 hours), Mexico City (98) and Chicago (98).
Of the 15 worst cities for traffic worldwide, seven are found in the US.
