MUD - Its Better Than Working

It's Tuesday, a perfect day to listen to some Mud, featuring the particularly pleasing vocals of Les Gray and guitars by Rob Davis. Let's focus on their 1976 album It's Better Than Working. Recommended tracks: It Don't Mean a Thing. Nite on the Tiles. Beating Round the Bush. Sweet and Sour Lady. Or just listen to the whole thing!

As far as I can see, MUD did not get airplay in the U.S., which I find incomprehensible. I think a lot of these songs would have been big hits.

Mud were very popular in mid-'70s Britain, with, according to Wikipedia, "fourteen UK Top 20 hits between 1973 and 1976, including three number ones." There was no shortage of airplay here.

I suppose their big Christmas song was a little too downbeat to achieve the lasting ubiquity of the other old chestnuts from that era, 'Merry Christmas Everybody' & 'I Wish it Could Be Christmas Every Day'.

I have “Dyna-Mite” by Mud on my Friday Night Glam playlist, which I use to celebrate the weekend after a long week of work.

Of that which we do not know, we must not comment.

I loved Mud as a child. They were so funny on Top Of The Pops
