America's Biggest Beer Drinkers Live In These States
The top-ranking state had an annual ethanol consumption of 1.66 gallons per capita.

It's no secret that Americans love beer, but some parts of the country are chugging a lot more of the stuff than others.

Using 2022 data from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, Visual Capitalist mapped the annual per-capita ethanol consumption of beer in gallons in each US state. The figures only include people aged 14 or older.

New Hampshire residents drink the most beer overall, with 1.66 gallons consumed per person in 2022. Beer consumption rates are similarly high in Montana (1.58 gallons) and Vermont (1.54 gallons).

People drink the least beer in Utah (0.50 gallons), followed by Maryland (0.63 gallons) and Connecticut (0.72 gallons).

Nationwide, the average per-capita ethanol consumption of beer is 1.02 gallons a year.
