Access to paid sick leave varies widely across job roles, incomes and industries in the US, and there are major disparities on a regional level, too.

Using 2024 figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Visual Capitalist mapped the percentage of workers with access to paid sick leave in each US region.

States in the Pacific region β€” Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon and California β€” have the highest share of workers with access to paid sick leave (95 percent).

The New England and Middle Atlantic regions also boast large shares of workers with access to paid sick leave, at 89 and 88 percent, respectively.

Access to paid sick leave is lowest in the East South Central (68 percent) and West South Central (70 percent).
