In 2023, US workers saw an average one-way commute time of just under 27 minutes โ€” but in some cities, that number is far higher.

Using analysis of 2022 Census Bureau data, Visual Capitalist showed the top 10 cities with the longest average one-way commutes.

Ranking first is Palmdale, California, in Northern Los Angeles County, where commuters face a 45.5-minute journey to work. New York follows behind, with an average commute of 40.7 minutes.

California cities dominates the list, accounting for more than half of the 10 spots with the longest commute times.
