NFL Week 2 live updates: Texans face Bears on 'Sunday Night Football'

All eyes will be on 2024 No. 1 draft pick Caleb Williams in his second career start.

Week 2 of the NFL season is here. Here are a few of the biggest storylines to come out of the day games:

  • Harrison Butker's 51-yarder with time expiring was the difference in Chiefs-Bengals.
  • Alvin Kamara scored four touchdowns in the Saints' drubbing of the Cowboys.
  • Rookie WR Marvin Harrison Jr. broke out with 130 yards receiving and two scores as the Cardinals crushed the Rams.
  • The Baltimore Ravens, who entered the season Super Bowl contenders, are now 0-2 after falling the Las Vegas Raiders.

Bears tie the game with 53-yard field goal

The Bears’ first drive of the game ends with a successful 53-yard field goal by kicker Cairo Santos, tying the score 3-3.

That’s the second 50-plus yard field goal this quarter, as the Texans opened the scoring with a 56-yard attempt by kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn.

Texans up 3-0 after 56-yard field goal

The Texans are up 3-0 after the first drive of the game ended with a 56-yard belter by Texans kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn.

Both teams look to stay undefeated with the Bears coming off a win last Sunday over the Titans, whereas the Texans eked out a victory over the Colts.

Final: Chiefs beat Bengals 26-25 on walk-off field goal

After a pass interference penalty on fourth-and-16, the Chiefs took advantage and kicked a game-winning field goal for a 26-25 win over the Bengals.

Harrison Butker connected from 51 yards for the win. It was the fifth lead change of the second half in a back-and-forth game.

Bengals regain lead on field goal

After a Ja'Marr Chase unsportsmanlike conduct penalty derailed their drive, the Bengals rebounded from a Joe Burrow fumble with a field goal. It’s Cincinnati’s fourth field goal of the game.

The Bengals now lead 25-23.

Chiefs return Joe Burrow fumble for touchdown

What a swing! The Chiefs strip-sacked Joe Burrow and returned the fumble for a score. Not only did the Bengals not capitalize on a Patrick Mahomes interception, Kansas City somehow took the lead on the next possession.

After a failed two-pointer, the Chiefs now lead 23-22.

Patrick Mahomes is picked off again!

A sick one-handed interception by Cam Taylor-Britt has given the Bengals the ball with a 22-17 lead. It’s Patrick Mahomes’s second interception of the game.

Bengals finally punch it in for a touchdown, regain lead

After the Chiefs took the lead on their first possession of the second half, the Bengals made sure it would be a short-lived one.

Cincinnati answered with an 11-play, 70-yard drive that resulted in an Andrei Iosivas three-yard touchdown catch on fourth down, his second score of the day.

After settling for three field goals in the first half deep in Kansas City territory, Cincinnati was more aggressive on this drive.

The Bengals are now back on top 22-17.

Cardinals extend lead

Chiefs take the lead on their first drive of the second half

And now the Chiefs are leading.

Patrick Mahomes threw a one-yard touchdown pass to offensive tackle Wanya Morris to put Kansas City ahead of the Bengals 17-16. The score capped a 13-play drive to start the second half.

Bengals with slim 16-10 lead at halftime

The Bengals are leading the Chiefs 16-10 at halftime...but it feels like they left points on the table.

Cincinnati had two drives that went inside the Kansas City 20 that ended with field goals, including one that was a goal-to-go. And after a Carson Steele fumble late in the half, the Bengals managed only a field goal.

That’s three opportunities for touchdowns that Cincinnati couldn’t capitalize on. The lead is impressive, but it’s playing with fire to let Patrick Mahomes hang around like this.

Cincinnati QB Joe Burrow has thrown for 140 yards and a score so far. Kansas City's Mahomes has thrown for only 93, with a touchdown and an interception.

Rams WR Cooper Kupp doubtful to return with ankle injury

Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp left today’s game against the Cardinals with an ankle injury and is doubtful to return.

Cupp caught four passes for 37 yards before leaving the game. The Rams are already thin at wide receiver — second-year player Puka Nacua is on injured reserve after hurting his knee in Week 1.

Bengals add field goal after fumble

The Bengals are up 16-10, scoring only a field goal after a Carson Steele fumble.

Nice job of holding by the Chiefs defense, which has had to defend two short fields after turnovers. They’ve been bending but not breaking so far, holding Cincinnati to three field goals and only one touchdown to keep the game close.

Fumble! Carson Steele coughs it up, Bengals recover

The Bengals have the ball and a three-point lead after a Carson Steele fumble.

The last time Cincinnati took over after a Kansas City touchdown, Joe Burrow led the Bengals to their first (and currently only) touchdown of the game.

Marvin Harrison Jr. is making up for a lost Week 1

After a forgettable NFL debut, Cardinals rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is more than making up for it in Week 2.

Harrison Jr. had four catches for 130 yards and two scores in the first half for Arizona today, helping his team race out to a 24-3 lead over the Rams after 30 minutes.

Harrison Jr., the son of Hall-of-Famer Marvin Harrison, was the fourth pick in April’s draft and entered this season with high expectations. He was surprisingly targeted only three times in Week 1.

He’s been sensational today, and is showing why he was one of the top prospects in the 2024 draft class.

Bengals settle for three again

For the second time in this game, Cincinnati drove deep into Kansas City territory only to come away with a field goal. Usually that’s not a good strategy for beating Patrick Mahomes!

The Bengals are now up 13-10 with under five minutes to go in the first half.

Chiefs go deep to Rashee Rice to tie Bengals

Patrick Mahomes found Rashee Rice running down the left sideline for 44 yards and we’re tried again in Kansas City. The catch, run and score evened the game at 10.

Bengals back on top in Kansas City

After a Patrick Mahomes interception, the Bengals offense capitalized. Joe Burrow found Andrei Iosivas for a 4-yard touchdown to give Cincinnati a 10-3 lead.

Patrick Mahomes picked off!

On the first play of the Chiefs’ second drive, Patrick Mahomes was picked off by Bengals linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither. The Bengals are now inside Kansas City territory to start the second quarter.

Bengals go three-and-out on second drive

After a field goal to open the game, Cincinnati went three-and-out on its next possession. A false start on first down set the drive back. The Chiefs are taking over on their own 29.

Steelers 7, Broncos 0 on Darnell Washington's TD

Kyler Murray has the highlight of the day (so far)

Look at this amazing scramble and touchdown throw by Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray! There is no defending this:

Chiefs answer Bengals field goal with one of their own

Kansas City drove all the way inside the Bengals’ 5-yard-line, but had the Chiefs had to settle for a field goal on their opening drive.

The teams are all tied up at 3 in the first quarter.

Marvin Harrison Jr. dominating Week 2

Harrison Jr. has 130 yards receiving and two scores against the Rams...and it's only the second quarter.

Bengals settle for field goal on first drive

After driving inside the 10-yard-line, the Bengals settled for a field goal on their first drive agains the Chiefs.

Joe Burrow threw for 63 yards on the 10-play drive.

Cincinnati leads 3-0.

Final: Saints 44, Cowboys 19

Alvin Kamara had four touchdowns as the Saints offense dominated in a 44-19 rout of the Cowboys.

Derek Carr threw for 243 yards and Kamara ran for 115 more. Dak Prescott threw two interceptions in the loss, which dropped Dallas to 1-1.

New Orleans is 2-0, and has scored 91 points in two games so far this season.

Cardinals 14, Rams 0: Marvin Harrison Jr. 60-yard catch

Marvin Harrison Jr. already has his second touchdown of the day! After a slow start in Week 1, the rookie is showing why he was a top five pick today.

Final: Raiders 26, Ravens 23

What an upset!

The Raiders beat the Ravens 26-23 off a late field goal by Daniel Carlson. Las Vegas scored 13 points in the fourth for the come-from-behind victory. The Raiders trailed by 10 on multiple occasions.

Gardner Minshew threw for 276 yards in the win.

Lamar Jackson threw for 247 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The Ravens are now 0-2 for the first time since 2015.

Cardinals 7, Rams 0: Marvin Harrison Jr. 23-yard catch

Rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. has the first touchdown of his career.

Harrison Jr. had only one catch for four yards in his NFL debut, as he was targeted only three times in Week 1. He was the No. 4 overall pick in April’s draft.

Raiders 26, Ravens 23: Daniel Carlson 38-yard field goal

The Raiders have a three-point lead with under 30 seconds to go in Baltimore.

The Ravens will get the ball back with no timeouts.

Final: Seahawks 23, Patriots 20

The Seahawks are 23-20 winners in overtime in New England.

Geno Smith threw for 327 yards and a score.

The Patriots went three-and-out to start the extra period, and the Seahawks marched down the field on their only drive for the win.

Final: Commanders 21, Giants 18

Rookie Jayden Daniels has his first win as the Commanders knocked off the Giants 21-18 in an NFC East battle only a mother could love.

Daniels threw for 226 yards and ran for 44 more. Washington didn’t score a touchdown, winning via seven field goals.

Daniel Jones threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns for the Giants, who failed two two-point conversion attempts after an injury to kicker Graham Gano on the game's opening kickoff.

Final: Jets 24, Titans 17

Aaron Rodgers has his first win in New York as the Jets improve to 1-1.

Rodgers threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns. New York’s defense stopped the Titans in a goal-to-go situation in the final seconds of the fourth to hold on for the win.

Will Levis threw for 192 yards and a score, but had an interception and a fumble.

Final: Buccaneers 20, Lions 16

Another upset! The Bucs get revenge on the Lions for their loss in the NFC Divisional Round last season.

Baker Mayfield threw for 185 yards and had two scores — one in the air and one on the ground.

Raiders 23, Ravens 23: Davante Adams 1-yard catch

The Raiders have tied it up late in Baltimore!

Final: Vikings 23, 49ers 17

One of the biggest upsets of the day! Led by former 49ers backup Sam Darnold, Minnesota has knocked off the reigning NFC champs at home.

Brock Purdy threw two picks for San Francisco. Darnold threw for 268 yards and two scores.

Browns get a clutch safety!

This should be the clincher for Cleveland.

Buccaneers come up with big fourth-down stop!

With the Lions needing to convert a fourth down trailing 20-16, the Buccaneers defense held up and got the stop in the red zone with less than a minute to go.

Detroit can still get the ball back if Tampa Bay can’t get a first down on its next drive, but it’s looking bleak for the Lions.

Seahawks 20, Patriots 20: Jason Myers 38-yard field goal

The Seahawks opted not to attempt a 4th-and-1, and have tied the game late in New England.

Final: Packers 16, Colts 10

Malik Willis wins his first start as a Packer and Green Bay gets its first win of the season.

Jets 24, Titans 17: Braelon Allen 20-yard run

The Jets take a late lead on Braelon Allen’s second touchdown.

The Patriots are back on top.

Aidan Hutchinson is up to five sacks now

After three sacks in the first quarter, Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson is now up to five against the Buccaneers. He’s been dominant.

Vikings WR Justin Jefferson leaves with apparent leg injury

Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson gingerly walked off the field and into the locker room for further evaluation on what seems to be a leg injury.

Jets 17, Titans 17: Calvin Ridley 40-yard catch

The Jets and Titans are tied after Calvin Ridley’s second touchdown of the day.

Ravens 16, Raiders 13: Alexander Mattison 1-yard run

The Raiders are within one score after their first touchdown of the day.

Browns 16, Jaguars 10: Travis Etienne 4-yard run

The Jaguars have their first touchdown of the day.

Buccaneers 20, Lions 16: Baker Mayfield 11-yard run

A Baker Mayfield scramble has the Bucs back on top of the Lions.

Saints 42, Cowboys 19: Alvin Kamara 7-yard run

Alvin Kamara has his fourth touchdown of the day for the unstoppable Saints.

NFC heavyweights are on upset alert

The Cowboys, 49ers and Lions are all on upset alert in the second half.

Dallas is trailing New Orleans BIG — 35-19.

Sam Darnold has given the Vikings a 20-7 lead over his former team, the 49ers.

And the Lions are locked in a tight battle with the Buccaneers, with a slim 16-13 lead late in the third quarter.

Lions 16, Buccaneers 13: David Montgomery 1-yard run

The Lions take their first lead of the day thanks to David Montgomery.

Vikings 20, 49ers 7: Jalen Nailor 10-yard catch

The Vikings picked off Brock Purdy and took advantage one play later.

Ravens 16, Raiders 6: Zay Flowers 8-yard catch

The Ravens have their first touchdown of the day.

Jets 14, Titans 10: Breece Hall 26-yard catch

The Jets have their first lead of the day courtesy of a Breece Hall 26-yard touchdown reception.

Saints 35, Cowboys 13: Derek Carr 1-yard run

The Saints take advantage of a Dak Prescott interception and have now poured in 35 points in the first half in Dallas.

Giants 12, Commanders 9: Malik Nabers 4-yard catch

Malik Nabers has the first touchdown of the day — and his career — in Washington D.C.

Dak Prescott picked off!

With the Cowboys driving late in the first half, Dak Prescott was picked off by Paulson Adebo, who ran the ball back deep into Dallas territory. The Saints have a chance to add to their 28-13 lead.

Vikings 10, 49ers 7: George Kittle 7-yard touchdown catch

The 49ers cash in on the Fred Warner interception for their first score.

Jets 7, Titans 7: Braelon Allen 12-yard touchdown catch

The Jets are finally on the board in Tennessee right before halftime.

Saints 28, Cowboys 13: Alvin Kamara 12-yard touchdown run

The Saints haven’t played a full six quarters yet this season and they’ve already scored 75 points. Alvin Kamara has three touchdowns today.

Sam Darnold picked off in the red zone!

With the Vikings threatening to go up three scores, 49ers’ linebacker Fred Warner picked off his former teammate Sam Darnold to give San Francisco the ball back down 10.

Lions convert fake punt from their own 20-yard-line!

Does anybody in the NFL have more guts than Dan Campbell?

Chargers 13, Panthers 0: Quentin Johnston 5-yard catch

Quentin Johnston has his second touchdown reception of the day.

Seahawks 14, Patriots 10: Zach Charbonnet 1-yard run

Seattle takes the lead in a back-and-forth affair.

Buccaneers 13, Lions 6: Chris Godwin 41-yard catch

Tampa Bay scores the first touchdown of the game.

Saints 21, Cowboys 13: CeeDee Lamb 65-yard catch

The Cowboys have their first touchdown of the day thanks to a CeeDee Lamb 65-yard catch-and-run.

Vikings 10, 49ers 0: Justin Jefferson 97-yard touchdown catch

Sam Darnold threw an absolute bomb to Justin Jefferson for a 97-yard touchdown catch-and-run. NINETY. SEVEN.

Saints 21, Cowboys 6: Alvin Kamara 57-yard touchdown catch

Whoa! The Saints continue to roll in Dallas. Alvin Kamara has his second touchdown of the day.

Another week, another bonkers Will Levis turnover

A week after his interception was meme’d, Titans quarterback Will Levis may have an even worse turnover this week: an inexplicable backwards pass-turned-fumble that prevented the Titans from taking a two-score lead over the Jets.

Josh Jacobs fumbles at the goal line!

The Packers were on the verge of taking a three-score lead over Colts, but Josh Jacobs fumbled at the goal line.

Aidan Hutchinson is wrecking the Buccaneers

Lions defensive end Aiden Hutchinson has three sacks in the first quarter against the Buccaneers today. Three! Tampa Bay desperately needs to find a way to block him, as Hutchinson has single-handedly derailed multiple drives today.

The Saints’ offense continues to look unstoppable

After dropping 47 points on the Panthers in Week 1, the Saints have scored two touchdowns in the first quarter against the Cowboys in Week 2.

It was one thing for New Orleans to beat up on Carolina. It’s another to score in bunches against a Dallas defense loaded with talent. Is the Saints’ offense legit? Have the Cowboys taken a step back? Questions to monitor as this game unfolds.

Saints 14, Cowboys 3: Rashid Shaheed 70-yard catch

For the second straight week, Derek Carr connects with Rashid Shaheed for a long score.

Packers 10, Colts 0: Dontayvion Wicks 14-yard catch

Rookie Ja'Lynn Polk gives New England the lead on the road in Seattle with his first career touchdown.

Chargers 7, Panthers 0: Quentin Johnston 29-yard TD catch

A long Justin Herbert pass to Quentin Johnston has the Chargers up early 7-0 over the Panthers.

We have a dynamic...squib kick?

NFL teams are still figuring out the best way to exploit the new dynamic kickoff rules, and the Cowboys came up with an interesting angle today: Bouncing the ball in the landing zone through the back of the end zone, which is a touchback to the 20-yard-line, not the 30.

It can’t be easy to execute but it will be interesting to see who, if anyone, tries to copy this strategy.

Saints 7, Cowboys 0: Alvin Kamara 5-yard run

Alvin Kamara has led the Saints to an early 7-0 lead.

Pressure on Malik Willis

Packers QB Jordan Love suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee) on the final play of his team's opening game against Philadelphia. Backup Malik Willis played the final two games and promptly threw an incompletion and a sack to close out the loss.

Willis, who was acquired via trade from Tennessee in August for a seventh-round pick will start Week 2 against the Colts.

Willis, a 2022 third-round pick, has made three career starts — all as a rookie — going 1-2.

Eagles WR A.J. Brown will miss Week 2 game against Falcons

Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown will miss the team’s Monday night game against the Falcons with a hamstring injury.

The Eagles announced Sunday that Brown has been downgraded to out on the injury report.

In Philadelphia’s Week 1 game against the Packers, Brown caught five passes for 119 yards and a touchdown.

Brown has not missed a game since 2021.

Here are some of the biggest Week 2 inactives

The Week 2 inactive lists are out.

Jaguars tight end Evan Engram is a late scratch due to a hamstring injury he suffered during warmups.

Also, as expected, Packers quarterback Jordan Love is inactive with the knee injury he sustained in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Eagles.

Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III is out, as is Browns tackle Jack Conklin. Here are some more names that either in or out:

Jets’ Haason Reddick will skip second straight game

Jets defensive end Haason Reddick will skip the team’s second straight game of the season as he continues his holdout for a new contract. Reddick hasn’t been with the team since an offseason trade from the Philadelphia Eagles in hopes of a new deal.

It’s an expensive holdout for Reddick, who stands to be fined over $4 million dollars if his absence lasts all season.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa reportedly has no plans to retire

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has no plans to retire after suffering at least his third concussion since 2022, reports the NFL Network.

Tagovailoa suffered a concussion during Miami’s 31-10 loss to the Bills on Thursday Night Football. Tagovailoa sustained at least two during the 2022 season, and was suspected — though never diagnosed — of suffering a third, a controversy that led to an overhaul of the league’s concussion protocol.

Tagovailoa will meet with neurologists early this week to discuss the severity of his latest concussion, ESPN reports.

Miami is 1-1.

The Anthony Richardson project continues

Colts second-year QB Anthony Richardson was 9-for-19 passing last weekend against Houston for 212 yds and two touchdowns and one interception. He also had six rushes for a team-high 56 yards and another score.

Richardson had three passes of more than 50 yards, including 54-yard and 60-yard touchdowns.

Colts coach Shane Steichen said his pass to Alec Pierce "was probably the best throw I’ve ever seen. Closest one was probably Mahomes when I was with the Chargers in 2020 to Tyreek Hill… He’s got a huge arm that allows us to push the ball down the field.”

Time to worry about Daniel Jones?

Giants QB Daniel Jones made his first start since Week 9 of the 2023 season (torn ACL) and went 22-for-42 for 186 yds with zero touchdowns and two scores. This included a pick-6.

Since signing a 4-year, $160 million deal in March of 2023, Jones has thrown more pick-6’s (3) than passing touchdowns (2). Giants coach Brian Daboll said he’s sticking with Jones at QB despite the bad game.

The good news? New York is 3-0-1 in their last four games vs. Washington.

What to expect from Jayden Daniels

Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, will make his second career start Sunday against the Giants. In his debut, he threw for 184 passing yards and also rushed 16 times for 88 yards and two scores.

Commanders coach Dan Quinn said you shouldn't expect that amount of runs per game from his QB.

“We’d love to see him remain a passer first,” he said postgame. “Certainly not all of those are designed QB runs.”

Giants, Steelers look to finally get on the board

Only two teams failed to score touchdowns in Week 1: the Giants and the Steelers. The Giants lost by 22 points in their home opener (28-6) while the Steelers won 18-10 in Atlanta behind six field goals from Chris Boswell.

Is the new kickoff rule making a difference?

In Week 1, 64.9% of dynamic kickoffs went for touchbacks, while 33.3% were returned. This is an increase over 2023, which had the lowest kickoff return rate in history (21.8%).

One kickoff was returned for a touchdown in Week 1; there were four total kick return TD in 2023.

More upsets in Week 2?

For the first time in 45 years and just the third time since 1960, three teams overcame deficits of at least 14 points to win in Week 1.

  • Bears (down 17 points)
  • Dolphins (down 14)
  • Bills (down 14)
