The COVID-19 pandemic completely changed how and where we work โ so much so, that 35 percent of Americans who can do their jobs from home now do so all the time.
Using Census Bureau data, Visual Capitalist mapped the US metro areas with the highest number and share of remote workers in 2023.
The New York metro area has the most remote workers overall (1.3 million), followed by Los Angeles (952,276) and Washington (745,855).
When it comes to the share of the population working remotely, Greater Austin tops the list, with 23.6 percent. Second and third place go to the Raleigh-Cary metro area (23.3 percent) and the Denver-Aurora-Centennial metro area (21.2 percent), respectively.
