In a world where fame is fleeting, one single moment can turn a coveted career into a real crash and burn situation. For these high-profile stars, controversies this year could cast a long shadow that their careers may never recover from. While only time will tell, here are five celebrities who may need a new day job in 2025 β€” or at least a good publicist going into the new year.

Katy Perry

Perry found herself in hot water after releasing her lead single, "Woman's World," this summer. The female-empowerment anthem faced backlash after fans learned she had collaborated with Dr. Luke, a controversial music producer who countersued and eventually settled with musician Kesha, who had accused him of drugging and sexual assault.

Perry did eventually comment on the topic and didn't address the situation, much to her fans' disappointment.

Nicole Scherzinger

The former Pussycat Dolls frontwoman made headlines earlier this year for her comeback in Broadway's new production of "Sunset Boulevard." While that got her into the news on a good note, her response to a Russell Brand Instagram post this November, post the US presidential elections, got her back in the headlines; but on a rather sour note.

In response to Brand's post featuring a Trump hat, Scherzinger replied, "Where do I get this hat?" She has since apologized in a statement, calling it a "mistake." However, with the virality of the original comment still circulating making a large dent, her future on Broadway remains unclear.

Ellen DeGeneres

The controversial comedian dropped major news this year by not only premiering her final comedy special on Netflix, but also announcing her departure from the country after Trump's election victory. Considering her retirement and departure, particularly after her career took a major blow following allegations of abusive workplace behavior, it's looking likely that we may not see much of her again.

Nick Jonas

Jonas, a once untouchable media darling, faced backlash from fans after expressing admiration for Elon Musk online. The pop singer had given multiple nods to the SpaceX founder, and wrote "Take us to the Year 3000" tagging one of Musk's posts, referencing one of his band's hit songs. Right now Jonas's career is stuck in the Middle Ages, and this recent comment definitely shocked some longtime fans.

I would also add Zachary Levi. I loved this guy since Chuck...but, as is the case, his comments on the Covid vaccines and his love for Dictators puts him on my "Forget he ever existed" list.
