Analysis by CNBC, which looked at economic growth, job growth, state finances and more, has ranked the ten best state economies in the US in 2024. The graphic below visualizes the ranking, as well as each state's score and some of the major corporations they're home to.

Florida, where major companies CSX and Carnival are headquartered, sits at the top of the list for the second consecutive year. The second- and third-best-performing economies are found in Texas and Tennessee, respectively.

Another thriving state is Utah, which ranks sixth overall. According to the Department of Workforce Services, eight of the state's ten major private sector industry groups posted job growth last year.

In the seventh spot is Georgia, whose economy has benefited from foreign investment by large global corporations like Mercedes-Benz, Nestlé-Purina and Adidas.

Since when is the "best" economy defined by growth? But yeah, Idaho is totally crushing California in the bestest and most favoritest economy category, for Republicans.

Anybody else notice that #1 and #2 Florida and Texas companies noted have terrible- environmental records?

It seems like someone carefully selected the stats to highlight these specific states, for whatever reason that might be...

Yeah, this is a really crazy way to measure ... it's almost like they wanted to favor Republican states, and deliberately picked metrics to do that ;)

Meanwhile, if you measure the same way as an economist (or really anyone with a brain), you use GDP. By GDP California's economy is still *significantly* stronger than Florida's (even though Florida is at the top of the list): https://www.opendatanetwork.com/entity/0400000US12-0400000US06/Florida-California/economy.gdp.per_capita_gdp?year=2018

    2023 CA GDP (per capita): $75k ... Florida: $45k

Who looks at "presence of major companies" as criteria for retirement? Plus both of the top two states spend 4-5 months a year under attack from hurricanes and other severe weather...I think I'd start with Tennessee instead.

Also, they list Tesla as HQ'ed in Texas. Musk moved it there to dodge some taxes and what not but in mid 2023 he moved it back to California because they couldn't get the talent he needed in Texas.
